Chapter 48 Don’t Want to Be Misunderstood

Betty blushed instantly.

Since Kerwin had been a stranger to her, Betty would blush whenever he tried to be intimate with her.

Hearing Kerwin’s words, Jeffrey shot a smug look at Betty.

He expected Betty to feel upset when she heard Kerwin mention his wife in such a gentle tone.

However, he had no idea why Betty was blushing and embarrassed to take notes.

Jeffrey frowned as he continued, “Kerwin, so you like innocent girls like your wife, right?”

Kerwin chuckled.

Jeffrey said, “Who doesn’t like a simple and cute girl? Unlike some women who approach you only for your money and are involved with many men. You better watch out for them.”

However, Betty frowned as she heard Jeffrey’s words.

She realized that Jeffrey was referring to her.

Since Betty and Jeffrey met again, he had been talking to her in such a sarcastic tone. However, Betty couldn’t stand Jeffrey any longer and felt a little annoyed when she heard him insult her in front of Kerwin.

She looked up and questioned, “Jeffrey, what do you mean?”

Jeffrey sneered. “Betty, you finally couldn’t hold it any longer?”

The reason why Betty was so angry was probably that she didn’t want Kerwin to think she was a

gold-digger.

“I think you should be held responsible for whatever you say,” Betty said in an icy tone.

“Responsible?” Jeffrey sneered as he straightened up. “You don’t think you can continue to play innocent in front of Kerwin, do you? I’ll tell you straight out that I’ve shown Kerwin your dirty pictures. How could you–”

“That’s enough!”

Before Jeffrey finished speaking, Kerwin suddenly interrupted him in a stern tone Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.

At this point, Betty’s face went pale.

What? Did Kerwin already see those photos?

Looking at Betty’s pale face, Jeffrey felt his heart tremble but also painful!

“Betty, you’re not acting in front of Kerwin, are you?” Jeffrey put on a cruel smile. “Didn’t you tell him you were married,”

“Jeffrey, that’s enough,” Kerwin said in a warning tone. Then, Jeffrey’s face changed as he looked

at Kerwin.

However, Kerwin did not look at Jeffrey but looked at Betty.

Jeffrey didn’t want to give up and continued to speak, but Kerwin suddenly turned around and dropped his sharp gaze on him.

Only one look at Kerwin gave Jeffrey a cold sweat!

“Jeffrey Martin,” Kerwin said in a low tone. “Don’t push your luck.”

Jeffrey looked pale and did not want to admit his fear of Kerwin. “Kerwin, we are at least a family, and Betty is just an outsider.”

“Jeffrey,” Kerwin interrupted Kerwin again. “Stop testing my limits. You should know that the Martin family members are enemies to each other.”

Jeffrey was stunned by Kerwin’s blunt words. Staring into Kerwin’s cold eyes, Jeffrey couldn’t help but be scared and break out in a cold sweat.

His father was right. Although Kerwin was in a wheelchair, he was not easy to get along with.

Seeing how far Kerwin could go for Betty, Jeffrey was reluctant to give up but couldn’t say anything more and then lowered his head, “I was being a little offensive.”

“That’s about the end of the interview for today,” Kerwin said without expression. “You can go back. I’ll drive Betty home.”

When Jeffrey heard Kerwin call Betty by such an intimate nickname, he felt like a knife had been

stabbed into Jeffrey’s heart.

How could Kerwin send her home? Isn’t he afraid that Betty’s husband will see him?

However, Jeffrey did not dare to say anything anymore. Then he stood up and walked out of

Kerwin’s office.

Only Kerwin and Betty were left in the office, and there was dead silence.

Looking at Betty, Kerwin couldn’t help but frown, got up and walked to her side, and asked in a low voice, “Betty, are you okay?”

At that moment, Betty came back to her senses and looked up at Kerwin. She said in a shaky voice, “Have you seen those pictures?”

She finally figured out why Kerwin had reacted so strangely yesterday.

Thinking about those pictures, Betty felt shameful and couldn’t even face Kerwin, so she looked

away.

The moment she turned her head, Kerwin grabbed her by the chin and forced her to look at him.

“Betty,” Kerwin’s voice was low. “Don’t avoid my eyes.”

After a moment, he said, “I did see those pictures. Someone should have set up a pinhole camera in the hotel room where you stayed two years ago.”

Betty thought the same and nodded her head. After she went silent for a moment, she bit her lip. “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing to me?” Kerwin’s voice lowered again.

“Those pictures should make you feel upset and embarrassed.” Betty’s voice got weaker as she couldn’t help but look down.

Looking at her pale face and the teardrops trembling on her eyelashes, Kerwin felt his heart ache for her.

Damn it.

He hadn’t ever felt this way about Julia ten years ago.

Then he forced her to look up and straight into his dark eyes.

“Remember, Betty,” he said, staring at her. “Never apologize for anything you didn’t do wrong.”

Betty’s shoulders trembled. Looking at his determined look, Betty was lost in thought for quite a while, then nodded in the end.

“Okay,” Kerwin sounded relieved. “It’s getting late. Let’s go home.”

As they took the elevator, Betty suddenly thought of something, hesitated for a moment, and could not help but ask in a tender tone. “Kerwin, when you saw those pictures, did you not even suspect that they might not have been taken two years ago but at some other time?”

It was as if Jeffrey took it for granted that those were the photos she recently took with other men.

“Why would I assume that?” Kerwin said with a calm face. “I suppose it was your first time two years ago, right?”
