Chapter 607
Chapter 607
Soon, Caroline and Kirk went home loaded down with groceries. It was lucky that Kirk had been there. It meant that Caroline didn’t need to carry anything at all. Even her phone was in Kirk’s protection.
“I’m going to prepare the ingredients. You go back to sleep.”
“Alright.” Kirk nodded and went back to the bedroom.
Caroline assumed that he was too tired and didn’t think too much about it.
Once he went into the room, she started working.
Inside the bedroom, Kirk didn’t go back to sleep. He took out his phone and dialed Marietta’s number from memory.
Right then, Marietta was still asleep. When she heard her phone ringing, her first reaction was to get mad.
But then, she remembered that it might be Caroline calling and immediately became alert as she jumped out of the covers.
She found that an unfamiliar number was calling her.
Marietta’s displeasure at being woken up exploded.
“Who is this?”
“Me.” Kirk’s voice was very low and very recognizable.
“Matthew?”
Marietta was stunned to hear Kirk’s voice. Ever since hearing that Kirk had gone to break into the markets overseas, she and Kirk only contacted each other very rarely.
“Yes, it’s me.” Kirk walked to the floor–to–ceiling window as his mind began to buzz.
“I was just about to call you. Who would have thought that you would call me first? I guess great
minds do think alike.”
Kirk was just about to say something when his sharp business sense caused him to change tack.
“Why did you want to call me?”
“Do you remember what I asked you for help with?”
In truth, Kirk had already forgotten about it. After all, he met and interacted with a lot of people every day. He tended to have his subordinates do the rest.
“You mean when you asked me to help you find your child?”
“That’s right.” Marietta sat up. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“The private investigator told me that my daughter had been adopted by an Eastonian couple. Plus, it’s very likely someone from one of the big four families. You must have a way to check, right?”
Light amusement lit up in Kirk’s eyes. Of course he had his own means.
It was just that…
“No problem. Your troubles are mine to help bear. After all, you’re my wife’s favorite playwright.”
“Matthew, you’re really …” Marietta’s voice trailed off all of a sudden.
All she knew was that Kirk had been rumored to be with Daphne before and was married.
She had actually only found out about it from her assistant once she decided on Sonia for the lead role of “Daughter of the Sea“.
Now that Kirk was saying this, her first reaction was thinking that he was here to get revenge for his wife.
But that shouldn’t be.
Kirk was an exceptionally smart man. How could he possibly marry such a brainless woman?
“Matthew, let me explain. I didn’t choose your wife because of prejudice. She didn’t have the same
mastery of the script like the other actress.”
Kirk let out a low laugh. “My wife isn’t an actress,” he said.
Marietta was confused. “Aren’t you married to that Daphne person?”
“You’ve met my wife. In fact, you’ve been spending a lot of time with her lately.”

“My assistant?” Marietta was taken aback.
Kirk didn’t know what to say. Before he could come up with something, Marietta denied it again.
“No, that’s not possible. I’ve been spending a lot of time with her, that’s true, but there’s no way I wouldn’t have realized it was her …
“Other than my assistant, I spend the most time with Carrie …”
