Awake At Dawn: eight years ago 2
Julian hadn’t stopped pacing.
I watched him, ignoring my phone buzzing in my pocket—an unwanted reminder that I’d missed my brothers’ combined grad school graduation party last night. My mom kept sending me pictures of the two new family doctors, one medical while the other had a PhD in something I didn’t even begin to understand.
Meanwhile, I had a final today that meant I hadn’t been able to fly home. I probably failed it, too. It was for some low-level Chem class that both of my brothers would have aced.
I sighed, focusing on Julian and his pacing.
Back and forth, back and forth across the living room of our slightly dilapidated college rental house. He’d stubbed his toe twice on the dumbbells Grayson left lying on the floor earlier, and the second time, I thought he might pick them up and chuck both out the window.
I must be missing something.
I’d always gotten the impression that Jules was really close with his sister. Or sisters. He had a lot of them. Four? Five? I couldn’t remember. I didn’t know which one was visiting tonight, either, just that Julian Briggs—our normally calm and collected football captain—was stressed. More than I’d seen him for any game or any of his pre-law exams.
Our end-of-semester party was in full swing by the time she actually walked through the door.
I immediately forgot about Julian and why he was acting so weird. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
I didn’t give a damn about that.
I didn’t give a damn about anything that didn’t involve getting closer to the one girl in the room I should absolutely steer clear of.
