Chapter 230
Chapter 230
*Tomorrow’s the last day of your volunteer clinic, right? When you guys return, I’m throwing a welcome home party!” Sandra offered enthusiastically.
“Thank you,” Gwendolyn replied with grace.
“Don’t mention it. And hey, do me a favor and brush up on that material I gave you, the good stuff. Guys love that, Sandra said at breakneck speed before hanging up.
Gwendolyn stood there, slightly dumbfounded.
Was that stuff, um, useful?
Gwendolyn bit her lip, recalling how Howard had commented last time that those kinds of movies are dull while watching alone and that it took two to add to the fun. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Did he enjoy them, too?
Gwendolyn’s cheeks burned at the thought, and she quickly finished in the communal shower before slipping into a clean outfit.
As Gwendolyn returned to her room, it was quiet and spotless. The locals, whom Howard had helped save, couldn’t express their gratitude in words, so they cleaned the place from top to bottom as a token of thanks.
Howard was sitting on the bed, shirtless, his right arm wrapped in a bandage with a faint hint of blood seeping through. The young doctor was finishing up with his wound, tying a bow on the dressing.
Catching sight of Gwendolyn, he announced, “Dr. Quigley, I’ve gotten his wound bandaged but there might be a scar. You’re up dealing with the patient’s mood. Got my cell service back now, so I’m off to call my girlfriend.”
With a teasing grin, he packed his tools and left.
Once the door shut, silence returned to the room.
Gwendolyn edged closer to the bed and whispered, “Mr. Chadwick, I’m sorry.”
“For what?” Howard asked casually, his detached tone cutting like a knife.
A wave of guilt surged within Gwendolyn, and she confessed with a trembling voice, “I shouldn’t have let

you get hurt. It’s my fault.”
“So, you knew you gave me a cold shoulder?” His eyes were like shards of ice, forbidding and unapproachable.
As Gwendolyn’s guilt intensified, her voice wavered. “I saw the clarification online. I’m sorry.”
So, she had seen it, and that was why she felt guilty.
Howard let out a cold laugh, but as he looked at Gwendolyn’s pitiful state, a pang of tenderness struck him, and he reached out to pinch. Gwendolyn’s blushing lip, saying, “Girl, you’re so stubborn. Is it that
hard to say you’re jealous or miss me?”
His fingers pressed firmly against Gwendolyn’s lip punishment in disguise. Gwendolyn’s lips, plump and tempting, swelled and reddened under his touch.
Gwendolyn winced in pain, her mouth opening slightly.
“Say something nice, and I might let bygones be bygones,” he said, releasing his grasp and watching her with an amused expression.
Gwendolyn bit her lip gently. Sandra had said men are easy to appease, so she resolved to flatter a little more.
“Mr. Chadwick, I was wrong. Please forgive me, will you? I promise it won’t happen again,” Gwendolyn pleaded softly.
For someone as reserved as Gwendolyn, this attempt at being coquettish was no smalt feat.
“Is that it?” Howard teased. “Gwendolyn, you’re not sincere. A stranger could apologize better, and here we are, husband and wife.”
The words “husband and wife” tasted sweet as honey coming from his mouth.
Gwendolyn licked her swollen lips, awkwardly calling out, “Honey…”
She remembered that Howard liked it when she called him that.
“Honey, I shouldn’t have given you the silent treatment,” Gwendolyn said softly, “Please forgive me. And…”
“And what?” Howard’s heart softened a bit. He enjoyed teasing Gwendolyn. He wanted to see how far Gwendolyn could go and what other enchanting words she might muster.
Gwendolyn’s cheeks flushed a deeper red, and she boldly leaned in to lightly kiss the corner of his lips.
In a whisper, she offered, “I could watch that movie with you.”
