Chapter 193
Chapter 193
“Come on, I’m just going to work. Why on earth would you need to tag along?”
Jeannie, with her arm entwined in Gwendolyn’s, insisted. “I absolutely must! Besides, it’s your first day with your patients. I’m there for help keep things orderly. You know, people are buzzing about the new hotshot doctor in town”
“It’s not that big of a deal,” Gwendolyn said with a sweet smile. I can only handle so many patients a day. I’m still getting the hang of things”
“Just let me come with you” Jeannie pleaded. With her charm, Gwendolyn caved in, agreeing to let Jeannie drive her to the clinic.
“And where’s my brother? Jeannie scanned the surroundings, not spolting Howard anywhere, and a sense of alarm rang in her heart.
“He’s at work. Summit Corp’s got a heap of stuff he needs to handle”
Jeannie looked thoughtfully at Gwendolyn and said, “He’s hot stuff now, with his Ings all healed and all. You can bet there are ferme fatales eyeing him. You gotta squash any potential drama from the get go. Don’t give those gals any opportunity”
Gwendolyn’s smile faded slightly at the advice, but she reassured, “Don’t worry.”
Jeannie didn’t dwell on it. She hopped into a sleek Maserati from the garage and called out, “Hop in, Gwendolyn.”
With a nod, Gwendolyn got into the car. With an impressive swing of the tail, they were off to the hospital.
Their arrival at the hospital didn’t go unnoticed, especially when two striking women stepped out of the luxury car.
The attention was something Gwendolyn wasn’t used to
Jeannie, on the other hand, strutted inside with her head held high, arm in arm with Gwendolyn. She preened like a proud peacock, wanting everyone to know that Gwendolyn was a member of the Chadwick family. Let all those whispers and rumors scatter to the wind.
Some thought Gwendolyn wasn’t good enough for Howard, even if she was a prodigy in her field, a diamond in the rough from humble beginnings.
As they entered the hospital, they bumped into a woman whose expression was sheer panic.
“You… Vivien?” Jeannie was about to lose her temper when she saw Vivien, disheveled and teary– eyed, in her patient gown, clutching her phone.
At the sight of Jeannie and Gwendolyn, Viviens eyes blazed with hatred.
“Are you trying to kill me, Gwendolyn?” Vivien screamed hysterically
“What are you talking about?” Gwendolyn was completely baffled.
ME
“What have our family done to you? You married into the Chadwick family and struck gold, and now you want to see us destroyed! Vivien ranted, her voice filled with venom. “I swear I won’t let this go!”
Her words seemed to seep with endless bitterness.
Vivien rambled on, but someone on the other end of the phone seemed to be hurrying her. She dashed off without another word.
Gwendolyn and Jeannie exchanged puzzled looks.
“Is she off her rocker?” Jeannie was the first to break the silence.
“Must be a pretty big shock, Gwendolyn mused, recalling the recent hospital gossip about how Vivien had been admitted after being infected by Conrad. She wondered if the treatments had been successful.
“Gwendolyn, show me to your new office, I’m dying to see it.”
With eager eyes, Jeannie followed as Gwendolyn led the way. Her office was right next to Aiken’s. There had been no objections to her transitioning from intern to full–fledged doctor ahead of schedule.
Because her mentor was none other than Enoch!
Ten minutes to eight.
There was already a line forming outside her office door.
Gwendolyn slipped into her coat and mask, logging into the hospital’s system.
Jeannie sat just outside on the waiting chairs, keeping an eye on things. She knew Selina would show up. That woman was always on the prowl, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
