Derrick had spent days watching and monitoring Ethan’s kids. He wanted to muster enough hate, but

he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He hated Ethan and everything associated with him, but his kids were

innocent-just harmless babies. Bella was even worse than he could imagine, and he had done a good

job covering her up.

His move to swap Daisy’s medication wasn’t carried out carelessly; he could have easily chosen a

lethal drug to stop her small, fragile heart in an instant. Instead, he opted for a more subtle approach,

giving the man he hated most a heads-up about what was coming his way simply because he was

developing a soft spot for those kids.

Not a monster, not scary.

He sighed, rubbing his arm over his scarred and ugly face. Seeing Ethan happy had infuriated him. He

carried on with his life like nothing had happened.

Meeting Bella made everything fall into place, and for a while, everything was perfect.

He had sworn to make sure Ethan died a slow, painful, and isolated death, wiping out the entire

bloodline of the Wilds, just as his own family had been eradicated.

That was until they came along. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t hurt them. There were

several times he sneaked in and peered at their sleeping faces, unable to muster enough hatred to

harm them, no matter how hard he tried.

“They’re kids, Bella. I can’t hurt kids,” his voice was a h o a rse whisper.

“What do

you mean?!” she yelled, agitated.

“They’re children; I am not a monster,” he whispered.

“What did you say? Not a monster?” Bella cackled into the phone in a mocking tone, as if she had just

heard a very hilarious joke.

“Not a monster?! Did you take a good look at yourself in a mirror? You look very much like one!” She

yelled. She could not believe this man was actually saying this, someone who had lost a whole lot

because of Ethan.

“Ethan did this to you; did you forget?!” She yelled. All she cared about was achieving her aim of

getting rid of Hazel. If she had to trigger him, so be it.

“It’s his fault you look like that!” She thundered. Where was the heartless person driven by revenge she

had met? The same one who had other people killed without batting an

eyelid? Bella kept yelling on the phone angrily.

“Ethan ruined you.”

“You think I don’t know that?!” He interrupted, his voice laced with pain and agony.

“I’ve been miserable for years; you think I don’t realize that?!” He thundered.

“I lost everything, my family, my life!” He yelled through the anguish.

“You’re being ridiculous; at this rate, Hazel would go back to Ethan, don’t you see?!” She yelled.

Everything should have ended a long while ago. Bella made everything even more complex. Now he

was tired.

“It’s enough, Bella. You’ve done enough; stop now,” he muttered with a heavy sigh.

“What?! No! What do you mean by that?”

“Your stunts and lies are getting much, Ethan’s not a fool, Bella. You don’t get it; your cover-ups and

loopholes, you’ll get caught at this rate. We were close to achieving our aim, so close.” She muttered.

Give up, Bella,” he said calmly.

“Your goals, selfish goals.” It’s disgusting to think she would bat an eyelid to kill two innocent kids, who

happened to be from the man she claimed she loved.

“You’re at crossroads. Your cover-ups can only last so long,” he warned her.

“What nonsense are you on about? We’re close now. After Hazel’s brats are gone, everything will fall

into place.” Hazel’s reappearance kept distracting Ethan.

“You know what the problem is with you? You’re greedy. You want what is never yours, what can never

be yours. Ethan,” Derrick said calmly.

Bella hissed in annoyance.

“He’s mine; he will be mine,” she said with determination.

“Is that so?” came the calm response.

“You already lost, Bella,” he told her calmly.

“It’s one thing to secure money and leave, but you stayed-one cover-up after another, then another, to

prop up your crumbling castle with faulty foundations.

“It wouldn’t have gotten to this extent if you had stopped earlier. You don’t seem to realize, the higher

you go, the harder you fall. You had so much to lose. Then I started covering and cleaning your

messes. You can’t continue that way, Bella; there’s an end, there’s always an end,” he said calmly.

“What do you mean?” she asked, a frown deepening on her face.

“Ethan can only overlook so many lies. Your cover-ups are like putting plasters over a leaking wall.

They’ll hold up for a while, then you’ve got to add more and more, and a whole lot more to keep that

one in stack, lie after lie,” he chuckled. “Bandages over a rotting wound. At the end, little plaster still

gives way, all comes crashing down,” his voice was calm and h oa rse.

“Give up and run now, while you still can,” his voice came down rough and hard.

“No! Why?! I won’t do that. Ethan would never find out. I’ll get rid of everyone in my way!”

“How many people would you kill?” his calm voice interrupted her. “How many more to bury what

you’ve done?” Bella blinked. From the tone of his voice, he knew what had just gone down with the girl

from that pack she’d gotten rid of. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

“You can’t give up; what would you do now?” she asked anxiously. She wanted Hazel out of her life

permanently-the only hope she had was backing out.

“None of your business,” he replied.

“Ethan would end up with your mate!” she yelled in frustration.

“He won’t. Take care of yourself; you’re going to need all the help you can get.”

With that, he hung up. Bella flung the phone away and let out a scream of frustration.

“I won’t lose,” she swore to herself.”

“Where are you?” Nathan’s voice was calm, talking to Axel. Axel thought it was weird, Nathan calling

him out of the blue.

“On my way to see Jasmine,” came his calm reply.

“You can’t, Jasmine’s gone. She’s not coming back,” Nathan’s voice was full of emotions.

“What are you talking about? I was with her yesterday, she’ll be just fine,” Axel’s face

deepened into a frown.

“She’s gone. She’s not coming back, Axel,” Nathan shuddered. “She remembered everything, Amelia,

my wife. She said she feels guilty about everything and doesn’t deserve to live.”

“Shut up,” Axel drawled, running out of the car and heading for her apartment. “Jasmine!” He yelled,

slamming the door wildly and madly. He broke the door, desperately searching and hoping he would

see her safe, huddled in her pajamas, waiting for him to come cook her dinner.

“Nathan, are you okay?” Hazel asked looking at Nathan in concern. He walked slowly, then slumped

against her.

“Let me just stay like this for a moment, please,” he sighed into her warm embrace, the note clutched in

his hands. It was undoubtedly Jasmine’s handwriting. He had people go out to try to look for her, but it

was confirmed, she was gone. Jumped off a bridge. Amelia was gone, Jasmine too.

“Hazel,” he called, holding her hands. “You won’t leave me too, right?” He had finally gotten a little bit of

closure, but the truth made him feel even much worse. And with Jasmine gone, he felt an

overwhelming feeling of hopelessness; it was suffocating. Hazel’s hand moved up and down his back

in a comforting manner.

“Are you okay?” She asked him calmly, breaking the hug. Nathan exhaled a deep breath, then began

explaining, telling her everything, things he had kept to himself about his wife Amelia and how Jasmine

had come in place. The reason he disappeared a lot of times, his struggles trying to unravel the death

of his wife, and every other thing. And Jasmine recently remembering all that had happened and her

sudden disappearance after sending that note.

“Did you try to find her?” Hazel asked anxiously. She had met Jasmine on several occasions, and she

was a sweet young lady.

“I already did,” he had received a letter; Jasmine explained all that had happened and that she felt

guilty and overwhelmed with everything she couldn’t live with herself

anymore.

“I never wished for this to happen, Hazel. I never wanted this for her. I wanted her to be happy; I gave

up on finding and pressing about my wife. It’s all my fault; I never should have lied to her.” He buried

his face in his palm, his b*dy shuddering and shaking from his heavy s obs. “It’s all my fault,” he cried.

“No, it’s not,” Hazel held his head and tried consoling him.

“Where is Jasmine?!” Axel yelled, running into the hospital ward and grabbing Nathan. He had been to

her house, knocked several times, and then even broken down the door; she was gone. No sight of

her.

“What did you do to Jasmine?!” He was shaking all over; his fist tightened in a hardened grip on

Nathan.

“Stop it, Axel,” Hazel said anxiously, trying to separate the two men.

“I’m sorry,” Nathan whispered, his eyes shifting to the handwritten note in his arm.

“I received this this morning,” he muttered, giving it to Axel, who grabbed it out of his arm. Axel

hurriedly read through it. Axel crumpled it in his arms.

“Lies! All lies! She was going to wait for me!”

“I’m not taking this cr ap!” He yelled angrily, tears flowing from his eyes. He breathed a calm breath.

“This, it’s a fake note,” he mumbled.

“It’s her writing, Axel,” Nathan confirmed.

“I don’t care! I’ll find her. She couldn’t end herself. She was getting better; we would meet tonight, and

I’ll make her dinner!” He sobbed, crumpling to the floor. How could she? How could she decide to end

herself in that manner?! Axel let out a painful shout then rammed his arm into the wall continuously.

“I’m not buying it! I’m not buying this sh it!” He yelled.

“Enough,” Nathan tried to hold him off in place. He shoved them aside, then stormed

out.

“Bella!” He growled. He wasn’t about buying the cr ap of this one being yet another coincidence.

Ethan paced quietly around Bella’s study. Instinctively, his hand reached for the concealed

compartment in the book, mimicking the secretive gesture he had observed Bella perform through the

hidden camera he planted. Finally, his fingers brushed against it, and with a sense of anticipation, he

opened it.

Within it lay the vial, a small but significant discovery. This had to be it.

07:49

“What lie would she tell this time to get out of this one?” He wondered heading to his study and placing

the vial on his table right next to Bella’s hospital test result. Then he waited for her.

He had bidded his time, waited enough she had crossed the line now
