A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 109 Fake Goods

Ranita remained quiet throughout all of this – as if none of it mattered to her at all.

“I’ll keep an eye out for anything else suitable for you,” Chris whispered in her ear. It took a moment for Ranita to respond, “Oh? Okay…”

She hadn’t really heard what he said and felt flustered when she responded. Some things were hard to let go of or ignore completely…

“Do you want some water?” Without exposing her confusion, Chris handed her a bottle of mineral water, “Do you want me to come outside with you?”

“No thanks!” Ranita shook her head at him, “The auction is almost over.”

As the sapphire necklace fetched a high price, everyone was eagerly watching the auction. The following items also sold for decent prices, and now it was time for the grand finale.

It was a landscape painting.

Surprisingly, Mrs. Cather ended up winning the bid for it.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

All the wealthy businessmen who came had something to gain, and even those who didn’t gained some experience and got to meet new people. As a result, the atmosphere was great.

Next up was the celebration.

Ranita led Mrs. Cather and Arthur towards the banquet hall when Mrs. Cather suddenly stopped her and said, “Miss Bowman, some people really have no taste. Your dress is definitely authentic.”

There weren’t many of these blue velvet haute couture dresses around, but Mrs. Cather’s eye for fashion was sharp enough to see that Ranita’s dress may have been altered at the hemline but it was still genuine.

“Thank you!” Sometimes Mrs. Cather could be rigidly annoying, but in this case she gave Ranita support which made her feel more favorable towards her.

Anna took hold of Mrs. Cather’s arm and sincerely complimented her saying, “And you look absolutely stunning in that blue velvet dress!”

“I wanted one too at first,” replied Anna with a laugh, “but luckily I didn’t order one or else I would’ve been outshone by you.”

“After all there is a saying here that goes ‘whoever wears it better wins’,” added Anna jokingly.

Ranita covered her mouth as she laughed before replying, “Thank you so much Mrs. Cather and Miss Anna! You are both very charming ladies; there is no need for self-deprecation.”

“The celebration will start soon; please follow me!” Ranita led them into the banquet hall where they were immediately approached by someone looking to chat with them.

Ranita dutifully did what she needed to do while making sure everyone felt welcome, but after making rounds, she couldn’t help feeling tired.

And then there were those people who clearly came just to meet with Mrs. Carter yet kept glancing over at Ranita in her blue velvet dress.

Ranita knew why – Shannon and Holly must have spread rumors about how she wore fake goods!

Sigh…

“Miss Bowman, nice meeting you!” A woman greeted Mrs. Carter before turning towards Ranita.

Ranita knew this woman somewhat – Paityn Sutton – the famous businesswoman from Ecrine known for being strong-willed, and having a tendency to meddle in other peoples’ affairs. Most wealthy individuals tended to keep low profiles especially on social media where false information can easily spread. But this woman was different. She was very active on social media and loved gossiping. She also had a large following online.

The problem? She loved meddling!

Sure enough, Ranita had barely exchanged pleasantries when Paityn asked, “Miss Bowman, is your dress real or fake?”
