Chapter 8
The sound of her blaring alarm pulls her out of my deep slumber, and she groans tiredly, forcing her eyes open. It’s still in the middle of the night, but she has some work to take care of, so she can only wake up early against her wish.
She yawns tiredly, swinging her legs down the bed, and getting on her feet afterward. With her eyes half-closed, she drags her feet sluggishly into the bathroom. As much as she needs to get some sleep, this work is important for her to do over the night.
Stepping out of the bathroom after she washed her face to get the sleep off her eyes, she walks over to her bed, and throws her heavy weight on the edge, reaching out lazily for her laptop afterward. She begins her work once it’s on.
After working on the laptop for what seems like forever, she was just about to turn it off, when a message from the company pops on the screen.
She sighs briefly. Why would the company email message her at 1am? Who the hell is controlling the messaging center? Don’t they sleep or do anything over there aside from work? She thinks to herself as she opens the mail reluctantly, but her eyes almost pop out of their sockets at the horrible message that welcomes her. She just got a message to resume the next day as the CEO’s secretary.
“Is this some joke or something? There’s no way I’ll ever do that shit. I can’t stand him,” she mutters angrily to herself, reading the message over and over again.
“Where the hell is my phone?” She asks no one in particular, searching for it on the bed, and once she finds it lying on the bedside table, she grabs it.
Realizing the phone is already a mess, and can’t do anything with it unless she gets a new one, she huffs angrily. Even if the phone is good, what the hell was she going to do? Call him and insult him or what? Of course, that is the last thing she would think of doing.
She groans angrily, throwing her phone across the room, finally ending its damn life. It’s already spoilt anyway. That bastard! She’s so done for, and she fucking knows it. Working as his secretary is as good as going on a suicide mission, and he is likely going to frustrate her to death.
“There’s no way I’ll agree to work with him. I rather turn in my resignation letter,” she shakes her head in conclusion.
After surfing the internet for almost all night, she finally switches off the computer, and keeps it away, going back to sleep afterward.
“Are you not going to the office today, Eve?” Nanny Cleo’s faint voice pierces through her ears and she groans tiredly, tossing on the bed.
“It’s almost 9am, Eve,” Hearing her voice for the second time, she finally snaps her eyes open and hops off the bed.
“Gosh! I’m so late for work,” She curses under her breath, rushing into the bathroom, totally ignoring nanny Cleo that’s still standing in her room.
Stepping out of the bathroom a few minutes later, she hurries everything in less than thirty minutes, and she’s ready for work.
Grabbing her handbag from the bed, she storms out of the room afterward.
“Good morning nanny,” she greets madam Cleo from the dining room, as she pulls out a chair and sits comfortably, waiting for her breakfast to be served. She has never been to the office without having breakfast, no matter how late she is, and she’s never going to do that. Because why would she? She’d rather get scolded for going late to the office than go with an empty stomach. That’s so not her.
“I packed it up for you, honey. You’ll be late by the time you finish eating,” madam Cleo says, once she steps out of the kitchen with a food flask. Wow! She’s such a sweetheart.
“Thank you so much for this. I’ll be on my way now,” she says as she hurries over to the exit door after she collects the flask. She strides out of the living room, driving out of the compound afterward.
Fifteen minutes later…
Driving into the company’s compound, she parks in the garage and alights from the car.
She walks elegantly into the office after leaving the elevator a few minutes later, not minding the fact that she’s late for work. Mr. Grumpy is not here anyway, so it’s fine to take her time.
Stepping into the office, which has already been filled with other workers, strictly focused on their computers, she almost freezes on the spot as she is welcomed by a lady sitting behind her desk while working with her computer.
She bats her eyelashes to be sure it isn’t some sort of dream, but when she opens them, the same scenario welcomes her. Now, it isn’t a dream. Taking a deep breath, she walks over to the lady sitting on her chair.
“Eve, you’re here,” Marian smile at her nervously, but she ignores her and goes to the lady instead.
“Excuse me?” She calls the lady’s attention, causing her to raise her gaze to look at Eve, having a questioning and confused expression on her face. ,
“How may I help you, please?” The lady asks while adjusting her speck, and Eve laughs dryly. This lady is messing with her right now, and she has zero tolerance for bullshits. If only they were not in the office, she would’ve had herself to blame for misfortune, but good for her that there are rules guiding the company, one of which fighting is prohibited.
Dragging her off her seat would’ve been a good idea, but recalling the email she got last night, she tries to calm herself down. She tries to convince herself that it isn’t that jerk’s doing. She would be doomed if what was sent to him via mail was true.
“Point of correction, I don’t need your help. And didn’t no one tell you that you’re sitting on someone’s seat, huh?” She finally asks glaring daggers at the young lady with anger burning in her.
“Eve, the CEO replaced you with her,” Marian finally announces to her, whispering the last part.
Her eyes almost pop out of their sockets. So it was true?NôvelDrama.Org © content.
