Chapter 4
Upon hearing this, Lily frowned and said with a hint of concern, “Mr. Gates, it’s so sunny today. What if you get a sunstroke? I’ll have Jessica deliver the documents to you.”
“It’s okay. I’ll be passing by the company anyway.”
“Okay, Mr. Gates. Then I’ll have Jessica deliver it to the underground car park.”
“Okay.”
I felt hopeless.
Others continued to praise Lily, saying how considerate she was, making sure Mr. Gates wouldn’t suffer from the slightest discomfort.
Lily wore a self-satisfied expression, as if she were the true wife of Mr. Gates. “Of course, true love involves being very considerate.”
Suddenly, she turned to me and said harshly, “But anyone who dares to covet my man will be thoroughly dealt with!”
My face was swollen, and the thin, form-fitting clothes did little to cover me. Large areas of my skin were exposed, and my previously slightly protruding belly had now deflated.
I knew deep down that there was no escape for me today.
I touched my deflated belly and cried silently, feeling only sorrow for my unborn child.
I glared fiercely at everyone present, vowing to remember their faces and seek revenge for my child, especially Lily. I would make sure she paid in blood for what she had done.
“What kind of look is that?” Lily slapped me again. “You just don’t know when to give up, do you?”
Her expression darkened. “Are your large breasts even real? How about I let some air out?”
She approached me with the utility knife, step by step.
She looked like a demon who was about to take my life.
“Ah!” As I screamed, the knife was stabbed into my chest and blood continued to ooze out of the wound.
The pain was so intense I nearly lost consciousness, unable to muster any strength.
At that moment, Simon’s voice came from outside the door.
“Lily, where are my documents?”
Lily’s hands trembled, and the knife fell to the ground.
She exchanged glances with the other secretaries, then adjusted her clothes and went outside.
“Mr. Gates, how come you’re here so soon?”All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
“The documents.”
“I have them. I’ll get them for you right away.”
There was a moment of silence.
I tried to call for help, using all my strength to open my mouth, but no sound came out.
The surrounding secretaries watched me closely.
The door was closed, so Simon couldn’t see me.
I had to do something to get his attention.
The conference room had only a table and several chairs.
Taking advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention, I desperately moved and grabbed a chair, using all my strength to try to topple it.
But I was too weak, and all I managed to do was make the chair collide with the table.
A secretary glanced at the door, sighed in relief, and seemed reassured.
The next second, the knife was pulled out from my chest.
She covered my mouth and stabbed my hand, pinning it to the ground.
My cries were completely muf fled by her hand and did not reach outside.
At that moment, I felt immense hatred.
I hated that Simon was just a door away but could not feel my suffering.
I hated that the secretary he had hired killed our child.
“Mr. Gates, here are the documents you need.”
“Okay.”
“Do you need me to go with you?”
“No need.”
The steady footsteps gradually receded.
Suddenly, the man’s voice sounded like he was coming back. “By the way, where is that woman you mentioned today?”
Lily’s voice sounded somewhat flustered. But soon enough, she collected herself. “Why are you suddenly asking about the woman, Mr. Gates? I’ve already dealt with her.”
“It’s nothing. I just felt a bit uneasy today, so I thought I’d ask. Forget it if she’s already left.”
With that, he prepared to leave again.
I screamed wildly in my mind but only felt even more hopeless.
At that moment, Simon’s footsteps stopped. He pointed at the lunchbox I had brought and asked, “Where did this lunchbox come from?”
Simon’s deep voice carried a hint of uncertain tremor.
