Chapter 1227
Chapter 1227 Divorce
Samantha kept a stiff smile on her face as she peered behind Yuri. The next second, her expression relaxed, and her eyes gleamed with provocation. “Look who's here, Yuri.”
Yuri frowned and turned her head, only to see Yosef's parents—minister Raymond Guzman and Marilyn.
As soon as the couple noticed her, they could barely conceal the disgust in their eyes.
“Yuri, why aren't you greeting your in-laws? Don't you think that's very rude?” Samantha uttered.
Alas, before Yuri could say anything, Samantha hurriedly continued, “Oh, I'm truly sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Guzman. Yuri's so ill-mannered because I failed to teach her well. After all, I'm not her biological mother, and it's widely known that she doesn't respect me.”
Just then, the president's voice rang out from behind them. “Let's see if she dares defy you.”
Upon hearing that familiar authoritative voice, Yuri instantly straightened her back.

With that, she shifted her gaze from the Guzmans to the president. Dressed in a dark, traditional Zaeworan attire, there was no denying that the strapping man exuded an air of grandeur.
Unfortunately, like all the other men around him, he harbored the same repugnant mindset.
From his words alone, Yuri knew he hadn't changed and still viewed women as worthless, insignificant beings.
Despite being in the president's presence, Raymond didn't bother hiding his true feelings.
“Ever since she entered the Guzman family, we haven't had a single day of peace,” he said resentfully, a look of utter disgust etched on his face. “To make matters worse, my son is now in jail because of her. She's nothing but a jinx!”
“Hubby... Our poor son...” Marily choked out. By then, she was so overwhelmed with sorrow that tears had begun welling up in her eyes.
She glared at Yuri with undisguised hatred, wishing she could strangle the latter to death.
Thankfully, Yuri was already accustomed to the hostile gazes and treatment. “It's perfect that you're all here. There's something I'd like to inform everyone,” she said calmly.
Marilyn furrowed her brows. “What?”
“I declare my marriage to Yosef to be null and void from today onward!” Yuri announced as she stood firmly on the spot. With her slender neck slightly raised, she resembled a lone swan fighting bravely.
It was evident that she had a burning hatred for the Guzman family and everyone else who had hurt her before.
That, of course, included her father.
As the child of a president, Yuri knew the laws that worked in her favor.
There had always been a rule that if the president's daughter-in-law or son-in-law were to commit a crime and the president's child intended to seek a divorce, the marriage would automatically be annulled after the criminal was sent to jail.
However, even though the rule was in place, there had only been instances of the president's son and daughter-in-law getting divorced throughout history. A president's daughter seeking to leave her husband was virtually unheard of.
Naturally, the crowd flew into an uproar.
“Oh, gosh! How can a woman initiate a divorce?”
“Only men have the right to file for divorce in our culture.”
“Exactly... Besides, who would dare marry her next time if she gets divorced? Why is she so fierce? No wonder she's having a hard time living with her in-laws.”
“I reckon she's just too fierce.”
Whispers and murmurs from those in the crowd kept ringing in Yuri's ears, but she remained undeterred.
It was as if she hadn't heard a thing.
Enraged, the president raised his hand and struck Yuri across the face hard.
“You jinx! I dare you to try and get the divorce today! I won't allow it!” he bellowed.
“The law states that after he's been imprisoned, the marriage can be dissolved as long as I agree. I am dissolving the marriage right now, and everyone present here is a witness!” Yuri retorted.
Half of her face had begun to swell from the blow, yet it seemed like she had long since parted ways with pain, and she couldn't feel anything.
She looked at the president numbly, her beautiful eyes devoid of emotion as she quietly observed him.
Ha. It's as if I'm staring at a stranger... In any case, I'm not seeking his or anyone else's approval. I'm here to inform them of my intention!
