A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 18 Sealed Lips

Brendon stood at the elevator door, his eyes coldly fixed on her. Shannon ran over and hugged the man’s arm, crying out, “Brendon…”

Shannon whimpered and pouted, tears streaming down her face without a word.

“Ranita, what did you do?” Brendon asked in a low angry tone.

“Brendon… don’t blame Ranita. It wasn’t intentional! She was probably just in a bad mood! The coffee wasn’t hot, I’m fine and not hurt! I just beg Ranita not to be mad at me!” Shannon’s eyes turned red like a pitiful bunny being bullied.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

Ranita felt choked up inside.

“I spilled the coffee,” Ranita said with sunken eyes as she washed away her heartache repeatedly in an icy cave that shattered into pieces.

“Nothing else to say?” Brendon’s voice was very cold. “I gave you the chance to explain.”

She looked at Brendon; what else could she say? No matter what she said, he would still comfort Shannon in the end.

If so, why bother wasting words?

Ranita’s silence made Brendon feel even more pressured all around him.

“Shannon, go wash up in the lounge first and change into my clothes.” Brendon gave her a cold glance as he helped Shannon walk towards the lounge while she sobbed, “Will Ranita be angry about this?”

“Don’t worry about it. Hurry up and go inside!” Brendon spoke softly with tenderness both implicitly and explicitly present throughout his words.

Ranita went back to her small apartment feeling downcast.

This time she lay there for three days straight.

Although Ranita had recovered from her illness physically but emotionally it was another story altogether.

In the middle of the night, Ranita was awakened by the urgent ringing of her phone. She reached for her phone and sat up in bed, saying, “Hello? Who is this?”

“I’m Chris Webster.” The voice on other side of phone sounded deep with magnetism. “Brendon had drinks outside with me earlier tonight; he got drunk now. I’ll send him over to Riverside Villa soon where you might need to take care of him.”

Ranita held onto the thin blanket with her fingers pinching tightly together hesitating before speaking, “Actually…”

She divorced from Brendon already so his affairs shouldn’t concern her anymore!

But when it came down to Brendon, she couldn’t let go completely.

“It’s okay… I’ll head over right away!” After washing her face and changing into clean clothes, Ranita drove her car straight to Riverside Villa.

As soon as she walked through the door, Ranita saw Brendon lying on the couch, his white shirt slightly wrinkled, his sleeves rolled up, revealing a sturdy forearm. His collar was also open by two buttons exposing his slightly reddened neck and muscular chest.

“Brendon!” Ranita called out, but all she heard in response was heavy breathing.

Her heart ached as she went to get water to wash his face.

The man’s fingers were long and distinct, and holding them made her feel safe. If only she could hold onto these hands for the rest of her life!

Before leaving, Ranita covered the man with a blanket and gave him some instructions, “Brendon, change your clothes. I left water and hangover medicine next to you. I’m leaving now.”

As she turned around, he suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Ranita felt dizzy as he pulled her towards him. The smell of alcohol hit her as he kissed her passionately.

Their intertwined breaths turned into waves of heat that flushed Ranita’s cheeks pink.

She wanted to break free from his embrace, but the more she loved Brendon, the more powerless she felt. She was like a small boat pushed onto the crest of a wave that would be engulfed no matter which direction it went in.

Ranita had no choice but to give in again to Brendon’s unreasonable demands.

Suddenly! A wave of heat rushed over her ear as Brendon whispered, “Shannon…”
